This is a video of Alton Brown"s method for broiling steak. He heats it slowly at first and places it close to the broiler toward the latter part of the cooking to sear it. For a 1.25 inch steak, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and then cook on second to lowest oven rack
